Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Breakfast
Zion Church Ministries, in partnership with the City of Everett, sponsors this annual tribute to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. that brings together residents from the community of Everett, along with City Hall officials and other municipal and state representatives, to celebrate and recognize the legacy of Dr. King, and others like him. Scholarships are awarded to college-bound students graduating from Everett High School and Zion Church Ministries, along with a Service Recognition Award given to an individual or organization working to make the community-at-large a better place, being respectful of the dignity of others and providing equitable care, service, or opportunities to all.
ESL Classes
Zion Church Ministries provides year-round classes for individuals to learn English in our online ESL program. Individuals from the church serve as instructors for people who speak Spanish, Haitian, Portuguese, or any other language. Classes are offered online, via Zoom or, in some cases, face-to-face. Classes are offered in Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter semesters, starting at Beginner level and also offered at Intermediate and Advanced levels. Students learn English that will assist them in being able to have basic conversational skills relating to shopping, job interviews, medical concerns, banking, housing, and citizenship requirements.
Community-in-Unity Block Party
Zion Church Ministries and the Zion Human Services Corporation host an annual Community-in-Unity Block Party for the residents of Everett to come together and enjoy free food, fun, entertainment, health screenings, music, and other festivities. Local businesses also help to sponsor this event through their donations so that more than 300 attendees of diverse backgrounds, nationalities, and ages can spend an afternoon of enjoyment and fellowship with one another.
Annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner
Zion Church Ministries, in partnership with Mass B.A.D.G.E. and the City of Everett, host an annual Thanksgiving Dinner for residents of the City of Everett at the Edward G. Connolly Center. Each year, more than 1000 residents come together on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving to enjoy a community dinner. Local restaurants and markets support the endeavour through food and product donations, as well as assist in preparing roasted turkeys, side dishes, and desserts. Mass B.A.D.G.E. police officers, along with their families and Zion Church Ministries members volunteer their time and energy to ensure that everyone who attends has a delicious, sit-down thanksgiving dinner with enough food available for many of them to leave with plates-to-go.
Annual Thanksgiving Baskets
Zion Church Ministries prepares baskets filled with all the fixings and products needed to help families in need have a wholesome, healthy and filling Thanksgiving dinner. Members of the church donate all the items, as well as gift cards to purchase turkeys and fresh produce. The Sunday before thanksgiving, people in the church volunteer to deliver the baskets to the families in the community.
Annual Christmas Toy Distribution
Zion Church Ministries is blessed by the charity of Mass B.A.D.G.E., the Senator Sal DiDomenico Foundation, Portal to Hope, and several other organizations to receive toys for children in families without resources to purchase gifts for their children. In addition to supporting families in the City of Everett, Zion also supplies 8-10 churches with toys for children of all ages.
